Consultation on the Extension of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 to Tenant Management Organisations
Overview
The Government has committed to extending the coverage of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (“the FOI Act”) to Tenant Management Organisations (“TMOs”) who provide services on behalf of local authorities. This will give members of the public the right of access to recorded information about those services. These TMOs will also have a statutory responsibility to proactively publish certain information about services they provide.
This consultation seeks the views of those TMOs to whom this extension relates on how the Government intends to implement this policy. As such it forms the statutory consultation as required under section 5(3) of the FOI Act.
Why your views matter
TMOs play a vital role in empowering tenants and delivering high-quality housing services. We want to ensure this policy is implemented in a way that is proportionate and effective, and that TMOs are well prepared to meet any new responsibilities. Your feedback will help us shape the approach, understand the impact and identify any challenges.
