Consultation on the Proposal from Staffordshire Moorlands District Council

This is a proposal that is accompanied by a request that the Secretary of State considers a boundary change or that affects wider public services. Please answer the questions on the proposal including the modifications. We will also ask you an additional question on whether you think there is a strong justification for these splits.

Consultation on 2 unitary councils:

  • North Staffordshire: Newcastle-under-Lyme, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire Moorlands, plus 16 parishes from East Staffordshire and 6 from Stafford  

  • Southern and Mid-Staffordshire: Cannock Chase, Lichfield, South Staffordshire, Tamworth, and the remaining 22 parishes of East Staffordshire, and 34 of Stafford

More information

As of 5 February 2026, within the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent area, Stoke-on-Trent City Council had received in-principle Exceptional Financial Support to support their 2025/26 budget. This council will not necessarily be in receipt of Exceptional Financial Support in future financial years.
