Consultation on the Proposal from Cannock Chase District Council, East Staffordshire Borough Council, Stafford Borough Council, and Stoke‑on‑Trent City Council

Consultation for 2 unitary councils:

  • North Staffordshire: Newcastle‑under‑Lyme, Staffordshire Moorlands, and Stoke‑on‑Trent  

  • South Staffordshire: Cannock Chase, East Staffordshire, Lichfield, South Staffordshire, Stafford, and Tamworth

4. To what extent do you agree or disagree that this proposal will put local government in the area as a whole on a firmer footing, particularly given that some councils in the area are in receipt of exceptional financial support?

As of 5 February 2026, within the Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent area, Stoke-on-Trent City Council had received in-principle Exceptional Financial Support to support their 2025/26 budget. This council will not necessarily be in receipt of Exceptional Financial Support in future financial years.
