Domestic Abuse Act Part 4, Local Authority progress

Overview

Domestic Abuse is a devastating crime which creates long term impacts on victims, their children, and wider society.  Government has committed to transforming the response to domestic abuse.

On 29 April the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 received Royal Assent.  The Act includes within Part 4 (Sections 57-61) new duties on Tier 1 local authorities in England relating to the provision of support for victims and their children residing within relevant safe accommodation and a duty on Tier 2 authorities to co-operate with Tier 1 authorities. 

In April 2021 the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) provided local authorities with £124.5 million of funding, asking them to commence delivery of the new duty.

In this survey, DLUHC is seeking to establish the progress made by Tier 1 local authorities so far.

What happens next

We will collect and analyse the information collected by this consultation.  It will be considered at the first meeting of the National Expert Steering Group, set up to oversee implementation of the duty, on 26 October 2021.
